Welcome to altAid, a hardship grant program for students facing financial crises.
To be considered for an altAid grant, please review the information below and submit an application.

Before you begin, ensure you have the following:

An itemized list with a calculated total is required for all requests (except grocery or gas.)

Application Instructions

1. Verify Your Enrollment

To be eligible, you must be enrolled full-time at one of the following partner programs or institutions:
  • ClimbHire*
  • HireLAX Program @ LA Southwest College
  • JVSWorks
  • LA Valley College Nursing Program
  • LA-Tech.org
  • Legacy LA
  • LIFT-LA Financial Incentive Program (only)
  • Los Angeles Harbor College Nursing Program
  • Rivet School*

*California residents only

2. Determine Financial Needs

To be eligible, you must have experienced an unexpected financial need within the last 60 days AND you must have not received a hardship grant from Areté Rising within the last 12 months.

Eligible needs include: food/groceries, utility bills, childcare, personal hygiene/care, transportation, medical/dental/mental health, safety & security, and learning/school resources.
Rent and tuition are not eligible for funding.

3. Gather Documentation

Gather documents needed to prove enrollment, verify your identity, and substantiate your financial need. Ensure that you upload legible images of your documents to avoid processing delays and additional requests.

4. Complete an Application

You may request whatever amount is needed. However, requests exceeding $350 are less likely to be fulfilled due to funding limitations. We ask that you request only the funds that you truly need to remain enrolled in your program.

When students misrepresent their needs or misuse funds it takes critical resources from those who truly need it.

5. Watch Your Email for a Reply

All applications will receive a response within 3 business days via email. If your application is successful you will receive instructions in the email about how to access your funds via an electronic debit card.
